League software for NFL FLAG operators, built by one

Nolensville Youth Football is an official NFL FLAG partner league: 90 teams, six age divisions and a full spring playoff. NOVA is the software we built to run it, and it is available to other operators.

What an NFL FLAG operator actually needs on a Saturday

Registration platforms get kids signed up. What they rarely handle well is everything that happens after the schedule is published: games running at the same time across several fields, refs who need to post scores without a laptop, parents who want to know the score of a game on the far field, and a standings page that has to be right the moment the last game ends, because playoff seeding depends on it.

We ran into every one of those problems at Nolensville. Our league grew to more than 1,300 athletes on 90 teams across six age divisions, with a 360-game co-ed regular season plus a separate girls-only STARS league. NOVA is the software we built to run it.

Standings that survive a three-way tie

A common way to sort standings is a simple two-team head-to-head comparison. That breaks the moment three teams finish tied and beat each other in a circle, because the result then depends on the order the software happened to compare them. NOVA computes the head-to-head record among the whole tied group first, then falls through the remaining tiers. We wrote up the full method in our guide to youth league tiebreakers, including the exact order we use.

Why it matters: in a playoff-seeded league, a wrong tiebreak is a wrong bracket. Parents notice, and the board hears about it.

Game-day scoring without hardware

Every NOVA Score referee uses the phone already in their pocket. There are no accounts to create and no app to install: the ref picks a field, enters the PIN the league hands out to officials and board members, and starts the clock. When a game is finalized it flows straight into standings and the analytics engine, so nobody re-keys scores on Sunday night.

Built inside the league, not pitched to it

NOVA was not designed in a conference room. It was built by the people who run Nolensville Youth Football, an independent Tennessee 501(c)(3), and it is tested every weekend of the season on our own fields. When something is confusing to a volunteer ref or a parent on the sideline, we find out the same afternoon.

That is also why we do not ask you to rip out what already works. NOVA is designed to run alongside the registration system you already use, including one a national partner may require, and to handle the operational layer on top: scores, standings, seeding and the draft.

Where to start

  1. Live scoring first. NOVA Score is the fastest win: refs and parents feel it in week one.
  2. Standings and seeding next. Load your divisions and schedule, and Sideline OS takes over standings and brackets.
  3. Evaluations and the draft before next season. ProScout AI replaces clipboards and hat-draws with scored evaluations and a balanced draft.

If you want a second set of eyes on your league's operations before choosing any software, NOVA Advisory is operator-to-operator consulting from the same team.

NOVA Labs is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NFL or NFL FLAG. Nolensville Youth Football is an official NFL FLAG partner league.
