SkillShark Alternative: Evaluations That Run Straight Into the Draft
SkillShark is a strong evaluation and player-reporting tool. If your league needs the draft and the season to run on the same platform as tryouts, here is how ProScout AI compares.
Start with the job you need done
SkillShark is a well-reviewed athlete evaluation platform. Coaches and clubs use it to replace clipboards with mobile scoring, then turn those scores into player report cards, progress reports and leaderboards. If player development reporting is your main goal, it is a strong option and you may not need an alternative at all.
Leagues usually start looking elsewhere for a different reason: the evaluation is only the first half of the job. After tryouts, a rec league still has to run a draft, balance the teams, and then carry those rosters into a season of schedules, scores and standings. That is the gap this page is about.
SkillShark at a glance
- Mobile evaluations: evaluators score players on a phone or tablet using a custom template.
- Reporting: player report cards on every plan; weighted reports, progress reports and player comparison reports on higher tiers.
- Draft Mode: on its All-Star tier and above, SkillShark can hide player names for less biased drafting.
- Integrations: SkillShark lists integrations with TeamSnap, SportsEngine and TeamLinkt on its paid plans.
- Pricing model: a free tier with limits, then paid plans billed per athlete per year. Check SkillShark's pricing page for current figures.
Public reviews are positive overall. Reviewers praise ease of use, fast data collection and responsive support. The recurring criticisms are a learning curve when first navigating the system, some limits on comparison reports, and fewer admin features in the mobile app than on the web.
Where ProScout AI is different
ProScout AI was built inside Nolensville Youth Football, an official NFL FLAG partner league with 90 teams across six age divisions, to run evaluation day and draft night as one continuous process.
- Draft night is the product. ProScout runs the draft lottery, enforces a snake order with a visible per-pick countdown, supports blind picks and keeps every coach's device in sync.
- Parity before rosters lock. When the last pick is made, ProScout shows each team's combined evaluation strength so the league can fix an imbalance with a coach-approved trade on the spot.
- Rosters flow into the season. Drafted teams carry into Sideline OS for schedules, standings and playoff seeding, and into NOVA Score for live scoring, so nobody re-enters rosters.

Questions to ask any evaluation vendor
- What happens after tryouts? Ask to see the draft itself, not just the evaluation screens. Who runs the order, how are picks recorded, and can every coach see the board live?
- How are evaluator scores combined? Averaging several evaluators per station keeps one opinion from deciding a player's value. Make sure the tool shows the average, not just the last entry.
- How do coach's children and siblings work? Your rules should be enforceable in the software, not handled on a whiteboard on the side.
- Where do rosters go next? If the answer is an export and a re-import into another system, count the volunteer hours that costs every season.
- What does pricing scale with? Per-athlete, per-event and flat pricing behave very differently for a league that is growing. Model your own numbers from each vendor's published pricing.
Which should you choose?
Choose SkillShark if you run a club or academy that evaluates the same athletes repeatedly and wants detailed development reports, or if you already run your season on TeamSnap, SportsEngine or TeamLinkt and want evaluations to plug into it.
Choose ProScout AI if you run a rec league that evaluates once a season to draft balanced teams, and you want the draft and the season itself (schedules, scores, standings, seeding) on one platform.

Frequently asked questions
Is SkillShark good for youth tryouts?
Yes. Public reviews rate it highly for ease of use, fast mobile scoring and support. It is strongest at player reports and development tracking.
What is the main difference between SkillShark and ProScout AI?
SkillShark focuses on evaluations and player reporting, with integrations into other league platforms. ProScout AI focuses on running the draft itself (lottery, snake order, pick clock, parity check) and passes rosters into the rest of the NOVA platform for schedules, scores and standings.
Is ProScout AI cheaper than SkillShark?
We do not make that claim. SkillShark has a free tier and per-athlete annual plans; compare current published pricing from each vendor against your own league size.
